How do you get better at Tetris than this? It is so fast an accurate that this must be some Japanese cyborg playing ... At the end the blocks just go invisible and he has to do it all from memory.

Shut up - Listen and be Creative

Had a parent/teacher conference for my daughter who is in 5th grade. Sitting there, I was transported back to when I was in elementary school. I never fit in. I couldn't sit, listen or follow instructions. My brain has always been in constant rebellion. Fortunately, it's not a tool user and can't escape the confines of my skull. Why is it that for 12 years you're trained to be quiet and do exactly what you're told and then on the last day at graduation, they tell you to be independent and creative?

Last Saturday I watched my daughter roll some bowling balls at Cosmic Bowling. I ate some pizza and had a couple of diet Cokes. That night I dreamed I was flying through space and time, seeding the universe with stars. Which now makes me wonder what exactly was in that pizza?

Smart, talented and good with video games is too much ... I think it's time there was less information in the world.

Crap is Crap


I've got so much crap to do. I have clean the house, do the laundry and the dishes. I have to pay bills and go to the bank. Not to mention -

I'm working on a board game, a video poker design and I'm 50k words into a pulp novel. NONE of it is getting done. I'm just sitting here complaining on my blog about my miserable life that ain't so shitty - but I like to complain anyway.

Maybe, I should stop now and continue on my book? Yea, I should stop now and continue on my book. I should ... should .. screw it, where the Stumble button?

Somebody's Calling Me


I hate the phone. I mean I really hate the whole technology of telecommunication. I just want to take a bat and smash my phone into little tiny bits and then throw it down the garbage disposal along with a picture of Alexander Graham Bell.

The prefix that I live in must be very susceptible to telemarketers. Actually my neighborhood is quite diverse. I'm only one of three white guys. The rest are (in order of greatest number) Filipino, Chinese, Mexican, Hawaiian and Tongan. Everyone is very friendly and helpful and I can't seem to think of any of them being particularly gullible - unless it has to do with Spam (Hawaiians and Tongans are nuts for the canned meat).

Maybe I'm the target. Probably, it's because I signed up for a free vacation in 1987 and my name and number have been rotating through the infomercial cycle ever since.

I must receive at least fifteen calls a day from telemarketers. Usually, they don't even have the common curtsey to put their name on the caller ID. Most times it just says, "Florida" or "Nebraska". There are some who put their own subliminal message on the ID like, "Pick UP" or "Accept Accept Accept".

Doesn't matter if I put my name on some national do-not-call list or if I scream at the telemarketer person - they just keep on calling.

I beg you Lords of the Wire, please stop the calling .. please go away and leave me to my misery.

Mountain Biker learns that F=M*A

Gather round all ye citizens of the EiMB Empire. I would like to talk about a simple equation in physics. Something that you should consider every time you get in your car or hop on your bike or motorcycle.

Force = Mass times Acceleration.

The following video demonstrates this principle.




In the video, the bike rider is using a GoPro video camera. I use the Veho Muvi Pro Micro. The Veho's are tanks. I've dropped it - it's fallen off my car and I even launched it in a model rocket. Great cameras.

Old Games Never Die

A long time ago, I was a designer and writer for a small design house called Westwood Associates. It was run by two great designers - Brett Sperry and Louis Castle. Louis was just and incredible programer and designer. He was doing stuff on the Apple IIe that would not be replicated until Doom came out. And Brett had this incredible sense of layout, interface design and organic motion.

On of the first games I worked on was Eye of the Beholder. I was a writer for the clue book on the EOB One and a writer and designer on EOB II.

The second game I worked on was DragonStrike for the NES. This was a top-down shooter and didn't any (other than the name) to do with the Apple IIe flight sim version.

I was a designer for a small NEC Turbographx role playing game called Order of the Griffon.

One of the last games I worked was Dune II for the Amiga and PC. This was the first real RTS to be developed. Brett Sperry came up with the idea after playing a German game called Herzog.

Steve Jobs - 1955 to 2011

Steve Jobs one of the founders of Apple Computers and the innovator of the iPod and iPhone died yesterday at the age of 56.

This news has spread across the web, like a wildfire. Steve Wozniak Facbook page was flooded with condolences. I'm sure he's been overwhelmed with phone calls and emails asking for a response.

I feel kind of sorry for Woz. It wasn't like he and Jobs remained best friends. For a long time there was only room for one person in Jobs' life and that was Jobs.

I am in shock and saddened. The phone is ringing constantly and I'm overwhelmed with email and there is only one of me. The bother of all this gets in the way if dealing with my own feelings, so please, I need time to myself.
My first computer was an Apple IIe. I had that computer for about ten years. Today I have a small Apple laptop and iPhone 3gs. The phone itself is a 1,000 times more powerful than my first computer.

Rest in peace Steve Jobs.
