SpongeBob and Google

So I was watching SpongeBob this morning and I swear I saw the Google Chrome symbol holding up SpongeBob's kitchen table. I tried to DVR it but it only taped the last part of the show. And yes, I watch, from time to time, SpongeBob with my daughter - but that's not the point. The episode title is A Friendly Game  ***NOTE*** At Nickelodeon.com you can watch the entire episode, so I was able to get a screen capture of the table.

I tried finding a picture of it on the Internet but all I could find was another shot of the table from a different episode. This picture is from Speely.

Having watched many a SpongeBob I noticed that every once in a while the creators put in a Easter Egg - sometimes it's a reference to an old movie or some social commentary. In season 6: episode 4: Suction Cup Sympony - a sly comment was made about national healthcare.

SpongeBob:  Patrick, I think you should see a doctor.
Patrick: I can't see a doctor. My job doesn't cover health insurance.
SpongeBob: What job would that be?
Patrick: Exactly.

The Empire of the Mouse.

Having a nine year old means you end up watching a lot of Disney and Nick. Hours of tweens disrespecting adults, committing petty crimes and being as loud as possible. Of course Disney and Nick continue the long standing tradition of no mothers allowed. Yes .. from time to time .. they cut out the father or very rarely have some dysfunctional family yet, single parent seems to be family model these networks want to promote.

There has been a lot about Miley Cyrus in news .. with her smoking pot, the horrible tattoos, drinking, partying and her father doing a complete mea culpa without ever blaming himself.

Now having said all this -- Miley does do a pretty funny skit on SNL, lampooning the Disney Channel.

Time has passed

I still can't believe it is 2011. The last time I posted it was right before the holiday season started and now almost in an instant it is right after. And that is how time goes as you get older. I am not really sure what I did since my last posts. Memory is another thing that goes as you get older.

My daughter watches all those tween shows on Disney and Nickelodeon. I have this compulsion to look up the actors who play the fathers, mothers, teachers .. to see if they're still older than me. Sadly, I am only hitting around a third. For instance:

David DeLuise who plays the father on Wizards of Waverly Place and is the son of the great Dom DeLuise is younger than I am. However the mother, Maria Canals-Barrera is about this same age.

Billy Ray Cyrus is older, but has better hair. Phill Lewis from The Suite Life on Deck is younger. Caroline Rhea, the voice of the mom on Phineas and Ferb is just a tad older than me.

I can already see the trend. The funny thing is I don't feel older. I really still feel like I am in my thirties. I mean my brain is still in my thirties. I still love listening to rock & roll - but that's from the 80's. I wonder how "Hungry like the Wolf" is going to sound when I'm 90?

When I was a kid there was a show called, "New Zoo Review". It was one of the large, stuffed animal costume shows like H.R. Pufnstuf. One of the two human characters was a very cute twenty-something named Emily Peden. She was born in 1944 and is now 67. She lives here in Vegas and runs a fairly large production studio called Laguna Productions.

So, I say watch out Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato and Miranda Cosgrove. Time just doesn't fly by - it rockets past.
